Obituary of Nellie Margaret Shaffner

SHAFFNER (Potter), Nellie Margaret - Nell쳌 - 94, 1916-2010, died peacefully on September 30, 2010 at the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Nell was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia and was a daughter of the late Outhit and Mary (Hiltz) Potter. She spent most of her life in the Valley she loved. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband John, former Agent General for Nova Scotia in London, England and former Lieutenant Governor for Nova Scotia. It is through those postings she further developed her lifelong interests in both bridge and antiques. Nell was also predeceased by her two sisters Edith Coates and Bertha Perry, brother Harry who died in WW2, and son-in-law, William Lewis. Left to treasure her memory are her two daughters Susan Lewis, Wolfville and Lynne (Geoff) Leppinus, Sydney Australia; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Evergreen Home for Special Care where she spent her last few years. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday October 5, 2010 at the HC Lindsay Funeral Home Chapel, Kentville. A Funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Saint John?¢s Anglican Church, Port Williams with The Reverend David Garrett officiating. Private family burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nell may be made to the Saint John?¢s Anglican Church, or a charity of choice.
