McDow, Ira Wade- 64, Died peacefully at his home in Blue Mountain, Kings County, October 8th, 2010 after a 2 year battle with cancer. Born in Blue Mountain, he was the youngest son of the late Gordon and Hattie (Russell) McDow. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanne (Middleton), son Scott (at home), daughters Sherrianne Russell (Scott), Kentville and Angela Sanford (Trevor), Newport Corner and the lights of his life, his four grandchildren Liam, Katie, Olivia and Brayden. Also survived by sisters Doreen Carey, Mount Denson, Rona Sweet (Albert), North Alton and brothers Darrell (Goldie), Mount Denson and Brayden (Gladys), Blue Mountain. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Hewitt and Firman. He was employed with the Kentville Research Station until his retirement. Ira enjoyed his draft horses and exhibitions. He was long time bowler and a past member of the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department, but he was happiest at the family cottage on Murphy Lake. Ira was the family handyman and go-to guy who spent many hours of his time doing for others and lending a hand where needed. By Ira?¢s request there will be no visitation. A graveside committal will be held at Blue Mountain Cemetery on Wednesday, October 13th at 2pm with a reception to follow at Blue Mountain Hall. Family flowers only.
