SANFORD, Asaphene Louise (Hazelton), of Clementsvale passed away peacefully on Monday October 11, 2010 at the Annapolis Community Health Centre with her family by her side after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Digby she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (Murphy) Hazelton.
Ace, as her friends called her lived life to the fullest. She loved to travel and had just returned from a short shopping trip to Maine hours before she was hospitalized. Ace was an active member in the community up until her death. She belonged to the garden club, the red hatters, the friendly club, the good neighbours senior group, and was a life member of the ladies auxiliary branch #122 of the Clementsport Legion. In earlier years she was an active participant with the House of Roth Lorettes. Ace was employed for 17 years with the Department of National Defense as school secretary at Clark Rutherford Memorial School in Cornwallis.
She is survived by daughters Jacqueline of Brighton NS, Cathy (Laurie Davison) of Texada Island, BC , son Greg (Danna) Rothesay, NB, three grandchildren Lauren, Britt and Rachel, her little boston terrier Spike, sisters Helen Adams, Digby, Lorna Willis, Kingston, Ont., Jean Turnbull, Kelowna BC, Mildred Keebaugh, Chillawak, BC, brothers Don Hazelton, Brookfield NS and Bill Hazelton, Sault Saint Marie, Ont along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, step- mother Freda Hazelton, sister Phyllis King and brother Murray Hazelton.
No visitation by request and cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday October 23rd in the Clementsvale Baptist Church, with Pastor Herb Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Clementsvale Cemetary. A reception will follow the interment in the church hall. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Community Health Center, your local animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
