DOK, Dr. Than MBBS, FRSM - 88, passed away at home, on October 19, 2010. Born on May 18, 1922 in Mandalay, Burma, Dr. Dok studied medicine in Rangoon, Lahore and London, specializing in ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology. He emigrated to Canada in 1966 and spent the rest of his professional life practicing in the Annapolis Valley. Remembered particularly for his kind and serene personality, Dr. Dok had a wide outreach to many patients and friends. His Theravada Buddhist background was quietly apparent in his gentle, spiritual approach to life in general, with all of its vicissitudes. He is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 56 years, by daughters Caroline, Catherine and Helen, and by seven grandchildren. A memorial service will take place in the Parish Hall of St. John?¢s Anglican Church, Cornwallis, Port Williams at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Interment of ashes will be at the Starrs Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the CNIB; the Cancer Research Foundation; the VON or to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care).
