Obituary of Cecil LaVerne Gould

GOULD, Cecil - LaVerne - 74, Aylesford, Kings Co. It is with great sadness the family announce the sudden passing of their husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, LaVerne, on Monday, January 10, 2011, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He was born on November 5, 1936, in Kingston, Kings Co., and was a son of the late Cecil and Eileen (Stronach) Gould. LaVerne had been employed with the Canadian Government as a Maintenance Mechanic at 14 Wing Greenwood for 35 years. He had a strong work ethic which was shown in everything he did. In his spare time, LaVerne opened his own plumbing business which he operated for many years. He was a veteran member of the Aylesford and District Fire Department and had been a member for over 30 years and had served in various positions including Deputy Chief and was active until his death. LaVerne?¢s interests included hunting, fishing, animals, spending time with his family and friends and tinkering with anything mechanical. He enjoyed the annual fire fighters mackerel tournament in Pugwash as well as trips to Rumsey Lake and spending time in the camper there. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Carolyn D. (Robar) Gould, Aylesford; sons, David; Andy (Colleen), all of Kingston; daughters, Lynn (Dave) Taylor, Fort McMurray, Alberta; Barb (Patrick) Gould-Oakley, Kingston; grandchildren, Natasha, Krista and Frankie; great-granddaughter, Kolbi; sisters, Vivian Thompson; Betty Constantine, both of Kingston; Jeannette Norm, Cold Lake, Alberta; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Tommie Douglas; brother, Floyd in infancy. There will be no visitation. Funeral service for LaVerne will take place at 3 p.m., Thursday, January 13, in Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), Rev. Douglas Porter officiating. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Aylesford & District Fire Department or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
