Obituary of Elsie Pauline Steele

Steele, Elsie Pauline - 90, Orchard Hall, Kentville, formerly of Port Williams, passed away July 14, 2011. Born Dec. 15, 1920 in Harmony, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late LaMert & Agnes (Winott) Crocker. Elsie graduated from Normal College, Truro, and taught school before her marriage to Hubert Steele in April 1943. In July of that year they moved to Port Williams where she resided for 66 years. She was a member of the Port Williams United Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was an active member of The Loyal Workers, the Missionary Society, and the Health Auxiliary. She was a wonderful Mother and homemaker, always busy doing for others. Elsie & Hubert worked side by side for many years running H. O. Steele Const. Ltd., & after retirement they traveled extensively and spent several winters in Florida. Besides her husband Hubert, Elsie is survived by a daughter Elaine (Lewis) Turner and a son Garth (Joan) Steele, both of Port Williams, grandchildren Kimberley (Roy) Beckett, Crystal (Peter) Tracy, Richard (Elizabeth) Turner, Angela (Bruce) McDowell, Darren & Ashley Steele; great-grandchildren Samuel, Joshua & Elizabeth Beckett, Michaela & Simon Tracy, & Addison McDowell. Many thanks to her care givers over the past five years. Elsie was the last surviving member of her family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters Mayfred Spinney, Lorna Palmer, Nola Hiltz, and Opal in infancy; brothers Horace, Theodore & Elvin Crocker. No visitation by request. A memorial service with a reception to follow, will be held Saturday July 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Port Williams United Baptist Church, Rev. Murray Shaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one?¢s choice.
