Wilcox, Gerald Vance - Jerryì³ - 90, Hantsport, passed away suddenly Monday July 18, 2011 at the Hants Community Hospital. Born March 26, 1921 in Pembroke, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late Emery and Elsie (Lantz) Wilcox. Jerry served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II as a Dispatch Rider with service overseas during and after the Invasion. In post war years he operated the Irving Garage in Hantsport and later was a Burner Mechanic for Irving Oil. Jerry was an active member both in St. James United Church and the community, and was the recipient in 1995 of the Provincial Volunteer Service Award for the Town of Hantsport. He was a member of Poyntz Lodge #44, A.F & A.M, Hantsport, serving as Worshipful Master twice, and as a District Deputy Grand Master, and had received his 50 Year Jewel. He was a past president and life member of Royal Canadian Legion Lucknow Branch #109, Hantsport. He along with his wife, - Wheetì³, were avid campers and volunteers in the Campground Host Program, in Michigan, British Columbia and since 1996 in Nova Scotia. He loved his large family and welcomed many others into his family circle. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Juanita - Wheetì³ (Worthylake) Wilcox, daughters Susan (Peter) Parsons, Jane (Mike) Durkee; Leslie (Ian) Miller, Karen (Jon), and Ellen; son Michael (Luci); 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brother Basil (Millie), Pembroke. Besides his parents Jerry is predeceased by sister Lorna Ritchie, and brothers Avard, Stanley, and Willard. There will be a Masonic Service followed by a Legion Service starting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 3, 2011 in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, Wolfville. A Celebration of Jerry?¢s life followed by a reception will be held at St. James United Church Hantsport, on August 4th 2011 at 2:00pm with Rev. Heather McDougall officiating. Interment will be in the Riverbank Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations in Jerry?¢s memory can be made to the St. James United Church, the Hants Community Hospital or to a charity of choice.
