Sawler, Alfred Warren - 93, of Berwick, passed away January 9, 2012 at the Valley Regional hospital in Kentville. Born on September 11, 1918; to the late Ezra and - Hillie쳌 (Mary Hilda McGill) Sawler. He was raised on a mixed farm in Cambridge, where he learned to enjoy machinery, animals, and growing crops. During the war he had mechanical training in Kingston and London, Ontario. He served overseas in England, France, Belgium, and Holland; as a first class motor vehicle fitter with the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers. After the war he married, and owned and operated a garage in Cambridge, Kings Co. until retiring with ill health. He was an active member of the Cambridge United Baptist Church as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, trustee, and choir member. In 1983 he moved to Berwick where he was a member of the Legion, the Citizen Advocacy, the Veterans Club, Antique Engine Club, and the Berwick food Bank. Surviving are his wife, the former Hazel Saltzman; daughters Linda (Jerry) Gallant, Berwick; Ann (Rick) Graham, St. John?¢s, NFLD ; brother Lorimer (Helen) Sawler, Cambridge; granddaughters Allison Graham, St. John?¢s, NFLD; and Elizabeth Graham, Vancouver, BC. Besides his parents he is predeceased by brother Ritson, and sister Lillian. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 7-9 pm in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, Berwick. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Cambridge United Baptist Church, Cambridge; with Reverend Garnet Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cambridge Cemetery Fund and Lung Association. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home and Crematorium, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, Nova Scotia B0P 1E0.
