Obituary of Evelyn Rose Lightfoot

Evelyn Rose (Smith) Lightfoot - 107, Wolfville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2012 in the Wolfville Nursing Home, just two days short of her 108th birthday. Born on March 17, 1904 in White Rock, Kings County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Schofield) Smith. Evelyn lived and enjoyed her life in Wolfville, working in the community as a cook for the Westwood Hospital, clerk for many Wolfville merchants, and loved for many years as an award winning AVON lady. She was a lifelong caregiver to her parents and brother with whom she ran the family farm. Her life is a blessed gift to many and she will be cherished forever by those who knew and loved her for her open, loving heart, generous and kind nature, quick witted humour and great fortitude. Always active, loved people and lived every day to its fullest, baking 100 apple pies each fall into her 100th year. She was an avid vegetable gardener, quilter, knitter, crochetter and baker. She was best known for her Sunday night suppers, beans and brown bread, apple pies and endless supply of candy. She enjoyed sharing all of her creations with family and friends. Evelyn was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed life and cherished her family, who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her son, Donald (Betty), Wolfville; and daughter Sherry Pulsifer, Kentville. Beloved grandmother to grandchildren, Shelley (Gary) Kelly, Heather (Chris) Bezanson, Sarah (Vaughn) Cosman, Michael (Jocelyn) Lightfoot, Alan Pulsifer, Carol Ueffing, Jane (Wayne) Hubley, Debbie (Don) Mailman, Melanie MacEachern; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Mitchell Kelly; Amanda, Jordan and Hannah Davidson; Emily Welton; Rachel and Kori Lightfoot; Michaela Weir; Joshua and Noah Ueffing; Ellijah and Kaitlin Hubley; Abbey MacEachern and Emmit Mailman; great great-grandchild, Deacon Ueffing and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Aubrey (Roy) Lightfoot; sisters, Laura Anderson and Lida Corkum; infant sister, Octavi; brothers, Bowers, Clifford and Donald. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 pm on Sunday, March 18. A Celebration of her life, followed by a reception, will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 2pm at Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, Wolfville with Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Hortonville. Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the IWK Children's Wish Foundation or the charity of your choice.
