Barrie, Alphonse A. - 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Orchard Hall, Kentville. Born in Florence, Cape Breton; he was a son of the late Jack and Mary Ellen (MacLean) Barrie. Phonse was employed with Princess Colliery. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time at the cottage in Groves Point. Phonse is survived by his daughter Debbie (Dave) Maddock, Kentville; brother Frank, Mill Creek; sisters Cecilia, Sydney Mines; Theresa, Florence; grandsons Chris and John Bardswich, both of Dartmouth; and Jeffrey LeBlanc, Sydney Mines. He is predeceased by his wife Betty (Stewart); daughter Shirley LeBlanc; granddaughter Katie Maddock; sisters Helen Barrie, Florence; Marguerite Hoeg, Florence; Mary Ellen LeBlanc, Florence; brothers Jim, Florence; Percy, Florence; Anthony, Florence; and Bill, Manitoba. Interment will be held at a later date in the Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Donations in Phonse?¢s memory may be made to the VON or to a charity of choice.
