Payne, Ernest Lloyd - 76, of Bedford and formerly of Sydney River and Glace Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Glace Bay, he was the eldest son of the late Arthur and Muriel (Turner). Ernie spent his early years working for the Bank of Commerce and in the CN telegraph office, then as an accountant for Hyland Motors in Glace Bay. He then moved on to work for the Town of Glace Bay, and then the Cape Breton District School Board as an accountant until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Tyrian Youth Lodge #45, Glace Bay. In 2000, Ernie and his wife moved to Halifax to be closer to their family. In his spare time he enjoyed square dancing, shopping for bargains, travelling, and spending time with his family. Ernie was a loving, kind, and generous man who will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Beverly (Reid), Bedford; sons Lloyd (Jayne), Port Moody, BC; Darryl (Angela), Lunenburg; daughter Lori (Gary) Walsh, Halifax; grandchildren Christopher; Douglas; Bradley; Abigail; Alexandra; brothers Arthur (Ursula), Toronto, ON; Gary, Mazatlan, Mexico; sister-in-law Linda Payne; brother-in-law Banford Reid; aunt Mildred Kennedy; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Jim, John, Lorie, and Niall. Besides his parents, Ernie is predeceased by his brother James (Jim). In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Garden in Sydney. Family would like to thank Dr. Susan Haddad, Dr. Susan Ripley, Dr. Christy Bussey, Dr. Sarah MacSwain, the staff of 8.4 of the Halifax Infirmary, Northwood Homecare, Rose Marie Wood of Continuing Care, and Devon Hennigar of Palliative Care.
