Obituary of Alvin Alonzo Dunlop
Please share a memory of Alvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Alonzo Dunlop in Kentville, N.S. on March 31, 2013. He was born on December 28, 1923 in Wallaceburg, Ontario and was the son of Robert Dunlop and Laura Grey who resided in Mitchells Bay, Ontario. Al's careful and thorough manner made him a perfect fit for his chosen profession of traffic manager and he contributed his skills to a variety of companies over the years including Canadian Bridge, Dosco, Truscon Steel, Labrador Linerboard and Day and Ross. He was a veteran of World War II. Having grown up as the son of hunting and fishing guide in Mitchells Bay, Alvin became an avid hunter and very accomplished fisherman himself. In later years he enjoyed revisiting his beloved Mitchells Bay with his family to spend more time fishing in the Bay and to relive with his children and grandchildren those happy moments of his early life on the water. He loved his golf with especially early tee times so he could fly around the course unimpeded by slow players all the while engaging in his passion for finding lost golf balls. He was a keen bridge player. His turkey soups will be sorely missed. He was a good man who loved his family and who was honest, respectful, hard working and who gave good council. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Helen Geraldine (Lethbridge) Dunlop; daughter Margo (Ernest) Cadegan; son Jim Dunlop; five grandchildren and one great grandson. There will be no memorial service and burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Dover Centre, Ontario. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to acknowledge their great appreciation for the many folks who contributed to Alvin's care in his final year.
