Cook, Gordon Beverly âShineâ - age 86 years of Berwick passed away peacefully with his loving wife Gertrude and step daughter JoAnne by his side, at the Grandview Manor on April 24, 2013. Born in Hill Grove, Digby County he was the son of the late Clarence and Ann (Young) Cook. Gordon held a variety of positions in his working career. He was employed for 15 years with H.C Lindsay Funeral Home as well as Frasers building supplies as a receiver and a truck driver for Roscoe Construction from which he retired in 1984. Gordon was active in his community; he was a member of the Kentville Senior Citizen Club, a former member of IOOF Lodge in Kentville and was an adherent of the Berwick United Church. He was an avid bowler, curler, hunter and fisherman. Gordon also enjoyed playing softball and hockey, and tending to his garden. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Gertrude (Loomer) Cook; step-daughter JoAnne Stoddart (Harley); son in law Wendell Power; brother Lloyd âBruzâ (Gail) Cook; sisters Freda Fitch (Frank), Florence âTinyâ Zwicker; grandchildren Timothy Stoddart, Angela Stoddart, Mark Newcombe and Rene Melanson; nine great grandchildren; also by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Ronald; step daughter Gayle Power, brothers Bickford and Robert and brother in law Albert Zwicker. In keeping with Gordonâs wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, Berwick Chapel (192 Commercial St); from where the memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 2pm with Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordonâs memory made to the IWK Health Center Foundation (5855 Spring Garden Rd, Ste B220 Halifax, NS B3H 4S2) would be appreciated by his family.
