Obituary of John Prokop

Prokop, John â 80 of Truro, NS passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Wing of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on May 10, 2013 with his family by his side. Born in a small farming community in Marlin, SK, he was the son of the late William and Anastasia Prokop. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery in January 1953 and he served his country for 31 years. On retirement, he and Evelyn settled in Truro. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and wood working. He also enjoyed playing music and his guitar. He was a member of the Downeast Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association, and the Atlantic Gunners Association. His big enjoyment was spending the summers at Harbour Light Campground in Pictou with his family and friends. John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Evelyn (French) Prokop; daughters Darlene Prokop (Rob), Ottawa, ON, Wendy (Dan) Chenier, Ottawa, ON, Valerie Prokop (Mike), Ottawa, ON; step daughter Jo-Ann West, Ottawa, ON; brothers Don (Denise), Kamloops, BC, Bill (Josie), Kamloops, BC, Morris (Lorna), Kamloops, BC; sisters Mary (Dave) Emery, Kamloops, BC, Jessie Kinaschuk, Kamloops, BC, Elsie Kinaschuk, Kamloops, BC; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his brother Joseph, sisters Anne Bouy and Olga in infancy. Johnâs family would like to thank the nursing and volunteer staff in Palliative Care at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the kind care, help, and support he received; especially Dr. David Blair and Dr. Henderson. In keeping with Johnâs wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations made in memory of John to Colchester East Hants Health Centre Palliative Care Wing (600 Abenaki Rd. Truro, NS, B2N 5A1) or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, Wolfville Chapel (568 Main St).
