Obituary of Wendell Levings

We are sad to announce that Wendell passed away peacefully in Digby on June 29, 2013. Born in Rockland, Massachusetts in 1922, Wendell served as a member of the Seabees stationed in the South Pacific during World War 2. He was very active in community affairs, including member of Kiwanis International; President of the SouthEast Mass. Professional Photographers Assoc.; Fund Chairman for the American Red Cross; Member and Chairman of the Rockland School Committee; Director of the Rockland Credit Union; Director of the Digby General Hospital; Director of Sissiboo Forest Management; and more. He was also a successful businessman and leveraged his passion and talent for photography into an early career as a professional photographer, newspaper photographer and owner of a retail photography business. In later years, he owned and operated an insurance brokerage in Massachusetts until his early retirement and move to Digby where he and his family had summered for many years. Wendell loved boating, fishing, gardening, farming and working on the century home in Digby to which he brought the same passion and knowledge that served him well in his work career. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Muriel; daughters Carol (Paul) Lanoue, Wendie Levings, Diane Levings (Joan Dewling); and son Robert (Marie); daughter-in-law Patricia Levings; grandchildren Jason Levings, Adam Levings, Allison (Mike) MacSween, Andrea (Tim) Cole, Zoe Levings, Benjamin Levings, Katherine (Gerard) Page, Sarah Lanoue, Paul Lanoue, Daniel (Marybeth) Lanoue, Jake Chambers, Carrie Chambers, Rebecca Chambers, Rachel Chambers; and thirteen great-grandchildren. His son, John, predeceased him. There will be no visitation and no flowers at Wendellâs request. There will be a memorial mass held in Digby at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 2pm on Friday, July 12th, 2013 with Father Keith Billard officiating.
