Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eddy, Hazel Ethel, --It is very hard to face the loss of our dear mother, Hazel Ethel Eddy of North Grand Pre, formerly of Bible Hill, passed away June 18, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Hartland , New Brunswick, to parents William & Annie (Mac Lean) Thompkins, Mom grew up & attended school there. In 1943 , she married Walter Mitton, before he was sent overseas, where he was killed in France in 1944, during the Second World War. For several years after this tradgey, Mom lived & worked in Fredericton at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. In 1952 she met Wesley Eddy & they were soon married They spent much of their lives together travelling all over Canada while raising their large family . In 1966, they bought a small farm in North Grand Pre, where they lived for seven years before building their home in Bible Hill. During this time, they opened a bed & breakfast & Mom enjoyed meeting & entertaining people from all over the world. After our dad died, Mom moved to New Minas. Here she was an active senior who participated in many community & church group activities & functions. Mom had many interests, projects & roles in her exciting life, but she always considered her legacy to be her role as a busy, active mother, grandmother, & foster parent to the many children who needed her. Mom's greatest passion in life was the love of her family. She adored her children & grandchildren & was a remarkable role model. She led by example & encouraged all of us to follow our dreams & be happy & successful. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor & an adventurous spirit. She loved to spend time with her family & friends, read & write, travel, play & listen to music, collect & do arts & crafts, sew, & care for her beloved pets. Her parents, husbands, & older brother, Arthur, predeceased our Mom. She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Mike) MacPhee, New Minas; Danny (Claire) Eddy, Pleasantville; Sandy (Debbie) Eddy, Stewiacke; Lockie (Anna-Marie Sember) Eddy, Merritt, B.C.; John (Lynda) Eddy, Kentville; Wendi-Dawn (Terry) Dowe, Parrsboro; Suzanne (Kerry Leadbeater) Eddy, Toronto; as well as her 'precious grandchildren', Matthew, Mark, Luke, Melissa, Tyler, Lyndsay, Stephen, Hayley, Jamie, Ian, Joey, Kyle, Katherine, Rachel, Alex, Austin, Payton & 14 great grandchildren. We are very appreciative of the wonderful care & support Mom received from her care giver, Estephanie Mercer, & the VON at Vineyard View Guesthouse, in the Gaspereau Valley & the doctors & nursing staff at both Soldiers Memorial & Valley Regional Hospitals. Her final days were comfortable & peaceful. All of her children visited her & spent many hours talking, singing & reading with her. Mon had a natural way of making those who came to see her, feel welcome & loved. We will miss her everyday. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Coldbrook. Private graveside service will be held in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pre. Rev. Sterling Gosman officiating. A celebration of life for Mom will be held in August. Donations in memory of Mom may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses. On line condolences may be made through www.annapolisvalleyfuneralhome.com
