Tuton, Dr. Ian (John Lawson), passed quietly at home on Sunday, Jan 06, 2013 at the age of 84. He was born and raised in rural Scotland, and educated at Kirkcudbright Academy, where he excelled in academics and numerous athletics. Ian was the elder son of Rev. George and Margaret (Milne) Tuton and is survived by brother, Rev. Roy (Sheila) in Glasgow, Scotland. He was married to Myra (Russell) for 52 years and had 4 children: Hazel (Rex Churchill), Russell, Alison, Scott (Angela) and 3 granddaughters, Kylie (Gregory Taves), Keizia Churchill,and Sabrina Tuton. In the last year he was happy to welcome his great granddaughter, Audrey Taves. After graduating from medicine at Edinburgh University in 1953, he served for 3 years in the RAF in the Far East. Then following a term as a ship??s surgeon, he returned to Scotland to continue his career in obstetrics and general practice. In 1966, he emigrated from Scotland with his wife and family to join the International Grenfell Association in northern Newfoundland and Labrador, where he remained for 23 years as a doctor-in-charge at various regional hospitals. In addition to his time in the ???Big Land??, he also enjoyed 5 years as a geriatrician at the Special Care Unit in Corner brook on the scenic west coast of Newfoundland. He had a great passion for curling and was always a talented artist. When he retired to the Annapolis Valley he joined Gyro, Gentleman??s Chorus and became a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church, participating as a board and choir member .He will be sadly missed by many, but will continue in death as he did in life, giving of himself for the good of others through the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine??s Human Body Donation Program. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Coldbrook. The family would like to thank all those who offered their support at this difficult time. Please join us for a celebration of this exceptional life in Wolfville Baptist Church, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan 12th. Rev. Dr. Barry Morrison officiating. Reception to follow in the church vestry.
