Obituary of Shirley Maxine Dorey

Dorey, Shirley Maxine - 73, of New Minas formerly of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, January 5th 2011. Born in Middleton, she was the daughter of Marjorie (Bennett) Whitman & the late Allister Whitman. Shirley was a nurse for over 20 years at Palmeter??s Nursing Home which is now called Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. She always enjoyed going downtown for a coffee & socializing with her friends. Her best companion that she loved so much, was her dog ???Katie??. Other than her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Brenda Gillis (Jerry Hiscoe), Eastern Passage & Gail Dorey-Blair, Lower Sackville; four grandchildren, Alicia Gillis & her fianc?e Anthony, Jason Gillis, Alyssa Blair & Amber Blair; three great grandchildren, Brandon-Lee, Kyle & Haile?; two sisters, Gladys White of Kingston & Joan (Robert) Steadman of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co.; nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, David White. No visitation by family request. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook. "We would like to express our gratitude to Betty MacDonald & Kaye Johnston for their many years of friendship and dedication to our mother" (Brenda & Gail). A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9th 2011 in the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, Lawrencetown. Pastor Patty Beals officiating. Interment will take place in Whitman Cemetery, Lawrencetown. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
