Harris, Donald Munroe, 90, (October 1, 1918 - February 20, 2009).It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Munroe Harris, of Bridgetown, Annapolis Co. on Friday, February 20, 2009 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County he was a son of the late Charles and Ida (Munroe) Harris. Don lived his entire life in the vicinity of Paradise and Bridgetown. He was an electrician by trade & owned & operated Harris' Radio & Appliance Store, Bridgetown.He was a veteran of Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy shore patrol. Don was a life member and had given 62 faithful years to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #33, Bridgetown. He was an active member of St. James Anglican Church, a past member of the Bridgetown Lions Club and a shareholder of the Eden Golf & Country Club, West Paradise. Don was a councillor for 14 years for the town of Bridgetown. He loved his vegetable and flower gardens, and was noted for his pies and bread . He loved sharing all these things with his friends and neighbors. He especially enjoyed having people visiting at his home and having parties. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and his favorite expression was "What??s the hurry, there??s lots of time !". Don is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, the former, May Fredericks-Young; son, John (Natalie), Bridgetown; step-son, Richard Young (Patty), Wainwright, AB; 2 step grandchildren, Scott Young, Calgary; Jamie Young, Dartmouth; dear friend, Roxie Young, Annapolis Royal;.sisters, Frances White and Marjorie Anderson, both of Berwick; sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris, Caledonia, ON; several nieces & nephews. Don was predeceased by 1st wife, Ruth Burns; brother, Max; brothers-in-law, Weldon White & Ross Anderson .A very special thank you to Rev. Liz Early & Rev. Fred Hinxman; Tom and Sonja Meisner & family and the staff of Soldiers Memorial Hospital medical floor and all who attended him during this troublesome time. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home,34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. Coldbrook. A memorial service and interment will take place at a later date . No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
