Jordan, Joseph Larkins, 81 of Upper Gaspereau, Kings Co. passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009 surrounded by his wife and children in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.Born at home in Upper Gaspereau, Kings Co. June 6, 1928 Joseph was a son of the late Herbert and Ella (Card) Jordan. He had a great love for life, was tender, caring, kind, strong and patient. His life revolved around working the land either farming or woods work, first with mules and horses then tractors. He grew vegetables, strawberries, grains and prize winning Gladiolas. He bred dairy and beef cattle, premium grade hogs, sheep, goats and the horses he loved, including Sable of the Pit Pony Series. In the woods he harvested pulp logs, firewood, Christmas trees and fir brush. He also worked as a carpenter, Stevedore on Hantsport pulp boats, doing custom farm work in his community, driving a truck hauling lumber, gravel, dyke brush, pulp wood and bagged limestone. Whether helping friends, neighbors or teaching his children and grandchildren, he was a strong support for all. He was especially proud of his children??s accomplishments. Joseph is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Beta (Coldwell); children, Ethel, Alan, and Mary all of Upper Gaspereau; Della (Trevor Rhuland), Bridgewater; grandchildren, Eden (Adam Parrish), Wolfville; Kerby, at home; Taylor Rhuland, Bridgewater; brother, David, Upper Gaspereau; sisters, Mary (Beverly Patterson), New Minas; Greta (Orin Levy), Wolfville Ridge. Joe was predeceased by sisters, Hazel (Harold Rathbone); Lottie (Lloyd Messom) Florence (Paul Wile), Edith (Orville Levy) and Pauline (Jack Price). Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (Exit 14) Coldbrook. A grave side funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Gaspereau Cemetery, Gaspereau. Rev. Ellen Hunt officiating, assisted by Rev. Michael Shreve.
