Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dodd, Thomas Edward -- 80, Berwick, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. He died as he lived, stepping onto his chosen path with a smile. Born on September 28, 1931, in Winnipeg, he was the eldest son of the late Edward ???Digger?? and Margaret (Kyle) Dodd. Ed served proudly in the Canadian Air Force, as a navigator of maritime patrol aircraft including the Lancaster, the Neptune and the Argus. Ed??s deepest wish was for a revival of the peacekeeping role that ennobled the Canadian Armed Forces during his years of service. On retirement from the CAF, Ed and Dave Schultz founded the Apple computer store, Innovative Systems; they were joined in the venture by Ernest Godon, Jack Britney, Joyce Dodd, Ian Dodd and Erica Santos. A traveller, an environmentalist, a reader and a birdwatcher, Ed and his co-adventurer wife, Joyce, explored Europe by camper van with their five young children. They all spent glorious summers canoeing, swimming and playing Bridge at Trout Lake. In recent years, Joyce and Ed toured the National Parks and Historic sites of North America: from home to the Gulf Coast, to the Pacific Ocean and across the Yukon??s Dempster Highway to the Arctic Ocean. Ed is survived by his wife, Joyce (Hyatt), his sons, David (Christina vanDriest), Mississippi, USA; Ian (Erica Santos), Victoria, B.C.; Ron (Val Schenk), Woodlawn, Ont. and his daughter, Susan Dodd, Halifax; grandchildren, Shawna Hickey, Kirsten Dodd, Ryan Dodd, Avery Dodd, Cole Dodd and Laurel ???Libby?? Dodd; brother Jim (Ethel) Dodd, sister Kathleen ???Tup?? (Bill) Wilson, sister Joan Cline, and sister Lynne Friesen. He leaves also his Canadian Armed Forces ???family?? -- the friends of a lifetime with whom he shared so much conversation and fun, and who supported him so fully to the end of his life. He was predeceased by his son, James Edward ???Jim?? Dodd and his brother-in-law Harvey Cline. Ed volunteered with the Blomidon Naturalist Society, VP International, the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum, the VON??s Meals on Wheels and the Nova Scotia NDP.
