Barkhouse, Philip Richmond, 88 of New Ross, N.S. died in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Born in New Ross on July 30, 1919, he was the son of the late Alfred Simpson and Annie (Meister) Barkhouse. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Laura Jodrey; 4 children, Ann Cowan, Boynton Beach, FL; Peter, New Ross; Ian (Evelyn), Halifax; June (Gregory) Oxner, Chester Basin; grandchildren: Margaret Cowan McGrath, Omaha, NE; Elizabeth Cowan Wright, St. Paul, MN; Laura Cowan, New York, NY; step grandson, Drew Roundell, Sherbrooke, N.S.; great grandson, Owen McGrath, Omaha, NE. Philip is also survived by sister, Lorraine Sargent, Augusta, ME; brother, Ronald, East River, N.S. He was predeceased by grandson, Nicholas Oxner. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook. There will no visitation or memorial service at the request of the deceased.
