Thexton, Major Robert George (Bill) CD (Ret’d) – Age 95 of Wolfville, passed away peacefully in Valley Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Novomber 19. Born in Twyford, England on August 4, 1918, he was the eldest son of the late Major Robert D. and Winifred L. (Roberts) Thexton of Annapolis Royal. He served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment during WW 2 in England, Scotland, Sicily and Italy where he was severely wounded. After the war he served in Holland and Germany with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles; in staff appointments in Halifax, Fredericton and Oakville; as an instructor at the Royal Canadian School of Infantry, Camp Borden; with the NATO Brigade in Germany; and with the Regiment of Canadian Guards in Camp Petawawa. ON his retirement from the army, he was employed for twenty years as Business Manager at Acadia University. Keenly interested in Genealogy and Military History, he wrote his family history “The Thextons of Cavan” and recently completed his wartime memories “Times to Remember”. He was president of the West Nova Scotia Regimental Association; for ten years a Warden of the St. John’s Anglican Church, Wolfville; and a Honorary Life Member of the Blomidon Naturalists Society. He is survived by his wife Brenda, Wolfville; his sister Anne (Mrs. William Esslinger), Karsdale; son Robert (Bob) and wife Karen of Bridgewater; daughter Dianne (and husband Gordon Thorpe) Wolfville; grandsons David Thexton (Whitehorse), Matthew Theton (Ft. McMurray) and Trevor Thorpe (Halifax), granddaughters Heather (Mrs. John Millikin) Kelowna, Kimberly (Mrs. Adam Hachey) Manila, Philippines, great granddaughters Fiona and Norah Hachey. He was predeceased by his brother Commander Donald L. Thexton of Karsdale. Visitation will be at the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home 568 Main St., Wolfville N between 2 and 4 pm Friday November 22. The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church Saturday November 23 at 2 pm. Rev. Sandra Fyfe and Rev. Dr. Bruce Matthews officiating. Burial in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Wolfville. Reception to follow at Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home. Family flowers only.
