Having worked for Chicken Farmers of Canada for the past 18 years, I have had the opportunity to have many wonderful conversations with Eric over the years. I have always looked forward to meeting him in Nova Scotia each year at the annual meeting and I am saddened that I will miss seeing him.
I admire the leadership and work that he did to create such an important national organization for chicken farmers. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss, but be comforted in knowing that he and his accomplishments will remain in our hearts.

I remember "Uncle" Eric so well! He was always so kind to the gang from the other side of the valley floor! Gramma Dot used to love to bring us over for a visit with the Meek family - it was always fun event.
I especially remember Eric bringing a side of beef to my wedding (seems like a strange thing to mention, but he did all the work, cooked it beautifully, brought it to the Lion's Hall for the reception ... it was such a busy time for our family and we were all so thankful! I'm sure it was just one of the many things he did for his family and his community.
Thank you Eric, for everything you did and for being such a great man. You will be missed!

I remember Eric Meek fondly. And with a twinkle.
While I mourn his loss and grieve for his friends and family, I look back at his as a life well lived: charitable, empathetic and full.
One of my fondest memories of Eric involved a meeting we were to have about something or other, generally about community in those days, when he agreed to meet me mid morning on the following day. I, of course was thinking 9:30 or 10, but Eric was there with bells on at 8. He never let me forget that.
This early rising habit of his gave the measure of the man's devotion to the noble work of farming, which he took very seriously, making major contributions to the organization of that industry locally and nationally.
But the true measure of the man in my eyes came with the fact that as many times as I asked him to help with community matters, never once did he say no. Community well being ran in his blood: whether with respect to the Lions, his church, the Children's Centre, Fire Department or any of the many other local non profit organizations that touched their lives, he and Pauline were always there.
Eric's was a loving heart. And the fond memories that remain in the wake of his life will be influential on many.
I shall miss his presence and I salute his as a life well-lived.

His kindness is what I will remember particularly to the women and children Eric welcomed to the Canning Baptist Church. For several years several groups spent 5-days a week there completing high school grades while their children enjoyed preschool in other rooms. The children looked forward to Eric's dropin visits and the mothers to his sincere encouragement. As administrator of these programs I will forever be grateful for his generosity. He ensured the necessary spaces were available free of charge making our limited dollars stretch further. Just an example of the life he lived and how he touched the lives of others in such meaningful ways. Thank you Eric. I will miss seeing you around and about.

My heart breaks for you as you say good bye. Eric was always so kind to me. My fondest, not so recent memory of Eric, was each year at Halloween when he made Aaron and Alana smile with this door answering antics. He would request a trick for a treat and the kids would always giggle as they left because they were able to get a treat without a trick ... they always asked a stop at Eric and Pauline's on Halloween night. Fondest memories and sadness are sent with this message. Please know I am thinking of you and sending my love.

Dear Pauline & family:
It is with such a heavy heart that I extend to you, Pauline, Clifford, Nancy and Janice and the family my heartfelt condolences on the loss of Eric. Eric was truly a gentleman and a scholar and the community of Canning will certainly feel the loss of one of their dearest and chariest friends. The Gentle Giant (as I liked to call him) was always a voice of reason when the room seemed to be full of ciaos. The quiet one - who seemed to sit unnoticed until suddenly youd hear someone clearing his throat, which was everybodys cue. A hush, as Eric rose from his chair nudging his glasses back down in to place and announced in that strong, clear voice of his Eric Meek here. Youd hear scraping of chairs as farmers turned to listen as he addressed the room. Didnt matter if it was a Board meeting of six or a meeting of two hundred the reaction was always the same. Maybe not everyone always agreed with him but his opinion, wisdom and experience was respected by farmers far and near. As usual, Eric leaves us without hoopla as he always use to call it. How many times he said to me, the job had to be done, so I did it, now its time for me to leave. Thank you Eric for your dedication to the farmers of Nova Scotia and across Canada. We are better because of your work.

I cannot tell you how sorry I was to heard that Eric had passed away.
Eric was a man who I had the utmost respect for. He was always very good to me and helped me when I moved to New Minas in 1993 by listening and encouraging me to do things and dragging me into situations which helped me develop as a person and as an employee of Co-op Atlantic.
I'm sure Eric will continue to prompt Co-operation even after he is not in this life.
Again, sorry for your loss.
