Obituary of Averill Scott Barkhouse

Barkhouse, Averill Scott age 62 years of West Gore, passed away on January 9, 2014 at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor. Born July 1, 1951 and raised in Upper Rawdon, NS; he worked as a boy in his parents general store and later trained to be a welder. Injured in a motor vehicle accident in 1971, Averill worked as a mouthpainter with the Association of Mouth and Foot painting Artists since 1991. Averill loved painting landscapes of rural Nova Scotia, especially old barns and abandoned buildings. He was predeceased by his father Bruce and mother Thelma (Sanford), brother Eric and infant sister Judith Mildred. He is survived sister Carole (Wendell) Simm of West Gore and sister Donna (Gordon) MacDougall of PEI and several nieces and nephews. Sincere thanks to his friends and faithful caregivers of many years who made it possible for him to remain independent. Special thanks to Janet Custance. In keeping with Averills wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upper Rawdon Fire Department or the Alzheimers Society.
