LUTZ, Dorothy Mae (Saunders), 72, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at her home in Garland, Kings County, Nova Scotia. She was born on November 22, 1941, in Marlborough, MA, to Harry and Anne (MacDonald) Saunders both of Nova Scotia, Canada. Dorothy grew up in Marlborough, MA and graduated from Marlborough High School in 1959. After high school she married the love of her life, Harold Lutz, from Black Rock Nova Scotia, and moved to Kentville, Nova Scotia. In 1965 they moved to Marlborough, MA and lived in MA for 28 years before retiring to Garland, Nova Scotia in 1993. They were married for 53 years and raised three children. While living in the states, Dorothy worked for Kidde-Fenwal Manufacturing in Ashland, MA and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Westborough, MA for many years. In her “retirement”, Dorothy worked for Saunders Insurance, Berwick, and then purchased Kozy Korner Flower & Gift Shop in Berwick where she made many friends and dedicated customers. Dorothy was a member of, and worked on, several committees at the Black Rock Baptist Church. She founded a Prayer Shawl Ministry for the local area through Black Rock Baptist Church and enjoyed being a member of the Jolly Workers Group in Black Rock. Dorothy’s passion was her beautiful flower garden that she maintained in the memory of her loved ones that had passed on. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; sister, Harriet Himmelman and Beatrice Taylor; brother, Arthur Saunders; daughter, Susan Mespelli and granddaughter, Heather Lynne Siebert. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Harold Lutz of Garland, Nova Scotia, her daughter Barbara and husband (Carl) Harris of North Sandwich, New Hampshire, son Brian Lutz of Black Rock, Nova Scotia; her sisters Mary (Bill) Lambert of Rutland, MA and Geraldine (Paul) Jackson of Middleton; her grandchildren Nichole Harris of Kingston, NH, CJ Harris of North Sandwich, NH; and Matthew and Collin Mespelli of Upton, MA; and close friend Resa St. John of Saratoga, NY, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives. She also leaves her faithful dogs Lady Sue and Emma Lou. Visitation will be held at Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick on Thursday, January 23rd from 5-7 pm. A service will be held at the Black Rock Baptist Church on Friday. January 24th at 11 am followed by a reception with family greeting friends and relatives. Rev. Freda MacDonald officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Black Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Black Rock Baptist Church, 1248 Russia Rd, RR#3, Waterville, NS B0P1V0 .The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Valley Regional Hospital and the Annapolis Valley Palliative Care Program for their dedication providing care during Mom’s final days.
