January 20th 2016 is the second year that my Dad has been gone,My heart hurts like hell.Even though I know hes with God.Miss you very much Dad all i have is the good memories that I spent with you Boating and going fishing or just relaxing at the house and going to Church with you and Gerry.Plus we got to talk about a lot of different things. Even though you told me that you were glad to have me spending time with you,but I should of been spending my money on other things that Kim and I needed. But I kept telling you that I didnt care about the money it was worth every last penny to be here with you and have fun boating and fishing. Plus you worried about when I try to put wood in the basement for you or working on the boat.Just wish that you were still here so we could still do things together Daddy.

Stan Perry is my Dad.
To say he lived a "full" life is truly an understatement. Given some of his antics over the years (even recently), he always considered he was lucky to have made it as long as he did. As he put it, he skidded on a banana peel once too often.
My Dad had more stories about where he'd been, the people he'd met, the things he'd done and the things he'd learned than anyone I know. He was definitely a social person and loved interacting with people.
Like a good novel, Dad moved through a number of "chapters" in his life, finally arriving at peace. My Dad learned many skills throughout his life, too. Fortunately, some of his children inherited some of those attributes. He loved the mystery of learning to understand "how" and "why" mechanical things worked and most importantly, how to fix them. He also liked to have parts "for anything". If you ever saw his garage, you would appreciate this statement. In his 20's, however, his talent earned him his Hoisting Engineer Papers -- without the benefit of formal education. He showed his creative side through the use of different styles of welding -- and made money in his retirement by building customized boat trailers. From carpentry to plumbing, there wasn't anything he wouldn't tackle. (He built our house in Bethany, ON) His passion of passions, though, was boating. Nowhere was he any happier than on the water whether it was touring the Trent Canal System or Lake Simcoe in Ontario or the open waters of the ocean via Mahone Bay. While he'd had a couple of boats during his lifetime, in retirement he finally attained the level of boating luxury he'd always wanted and it hurt him immensely when his health forced him to downsize again. Nonetheless, he had a boat and on the water was where he wanted to be. It was the one possession with which he did not part. Again, perhaps due to his affinity with the water from an early age, he was a natural for the "other side" of boating -- charts and maps. I'm sure he knew the location of every rock and sandbar and nook and cranny in Mahone Bay WITHOUT a chart. He did, however, take the courses and had his POWER SQUADRON certificates.
I feel comfortable in saying that Dad also loved his children, all nine of us! It kept him busy trying to provide for two families for many years but our love for him to this day attests to his love for us. In his marriage to Geraldine, his love for the last 30+ years, he also became a step-father, touching the lives of Gerry's kids and grandkids, too.
During his retirement years, Dad also returned to his religious roots. There is no doubt in my mind that the people in his church became the mainstay of his life and his faith provided him peace. Pastor Scott was Dad's mentor in this chapter of his life and I thank him. The Bible Study Group and many others in the congregation were such a big part of Dad's life over the last 10 years, I would thank them all by name if not for the reality that I might miss someone's name. You know who you are and I thank you.
As I sit here looking at a framed photo of my Dad, I can say this:
Stan Perry is my Dad.
I LOVE YOU, DAD!

Dear Family knowing Stan since he started at New Hope and living just around the corner from both he and Geraldine has been a real pleasure. Stan was a great guy and regardless of what life threw at him he kept trusting Jesus. We shared the same row in church and I have missed him and will do so for a long time to come. He is now with His Lord and Savior no pain no tears what joy.May God bring His peace to you all at this time. In Jesus Bob
