Gerald L. Davis - CD (WO Ret'd) - age 80 years of Forties Settlement.
Born in North Sydney, NS on January 11, 1934, passed away peacefully at the Valley Regional Hospital on January 20, 2014 in the arms of his loving wife Gail and surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Hilda Davis and the grandson of the late Michael and Maud Davis who raised him until he was 11 years old when he moved to the Annapolis Valley to live with his mother and step father the late Harry Barteaux.
Predeceased also by his brother Alphonse; sister in law Freda and niece Debbie; also by many aunts and uncles.
After working on his step fathers apple farm, he decided to join the Canadian Army in 1957 which took him to Kingston, ON for training. He spent 30 years in finance service his country with posting in Halifax, Germany, Ottawa and Chilliwack, BC.
After reitrement from the army he worked at the Ross Farm Museum for 16 years making wooden spoons the old fashion way. He was known as the "spoon man" by visitors from around the world.
He was a voulenteer for many years; 3 years on the Community Council in Hemer, Germany, 25 years as treasurer of the Forties Community Center and 25 years as a Lions Member. Because of his voulenteer service and service to his country he received the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal. Gerald always had a good joke to tell.
Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his loving wife of 54 and a half years wife Gail (Hiltz); daughters Elizabeth Anne (William) and Sherri (Lloyd); grandsons Douglas, AJ (Vikki), Jesse, Logan and Bentley; great granddaughter Bailey Paige; also by many nieces and nephews who all loved him and will sadly miss him.
In keeping with Gerald's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held of Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2pm from the Forties Community Center with Rev. Judi Phillips officiating. Reception to follow, and interment to take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald's memory can be made to the New Ross Voulenteer Fire Department or the Forties Community Center for a plaque in his memory.
