Pat; I'm so sorry to hear of Reg's passing.... It's been so many years since we have had a visit and you both extended kind invitations to stop in for a visit. I did one time and Reg was very excited about unearthing the original well on the property.
I can't begin to tell you the fond memories that I have; Reg as the 'teacher', the role model, the inspiration, the energy he left with me (and other students) to seek the why' and 'how'. He was certainly the image of a classic 'professor'... one was never really sure what was going on behind that hugh beard... rather intimidating at times , but sure kept me on my toes. I so fondly remember the invitations to visit with you both that Reg extended; especially around XMas time. You both were so embracing and hospitable. That was quite a unique opportunity extended by you both and something that no one else did back in those days (1971. '72), especially 'your professor'. Reg was literally the reason that I persisted and finally managed to achieve that MSc under his guidance. I am so proud that he lead me down the path that became my career (in several variations; oil and gas geologist, offshore wellsite geologist, teaching geology at the local highschool (with many of the tricks and techniques that I fondly remember;- one of the proudest and memorable times for me as I always wanted to try my hand at that role (as both my mother and dad had followed that path.
I dis my MSc under Reg and was very proud of the results mostly because he kept asking me 'why' and 'are you sure'?
I do so hope that you can summon the strength to carry one. As last time we met so many years ago;.. a great big HUG from me to you.
Thank you Pat for opening you home and heart to the rock kids that he mentored.
With greatest love and respect.
MOST SINCERELY,
Jack MacDonald {Trish (How)}sends her love as well) XOXO

Dear Pat, Mark, Jim, Vanessa & families:
Please accept Nancy and my deepest sympathy on Reg's passing. Many of us remember his rigorous and often unconventionally taught
stratigraphy and palaeontology classes of the early to mid-1960s, courses that left us better prepared and confident in our own abilities to face the world. Reg strongly influenced my career choice of micropalaeontology, and resulted in my following in his footsteps trying to understand the mysteries of his beloved Windsor Group.
Even though Reg eventually became a colleague and a friend, rather than professor and mentor, it was practically impossible not to continue to call him Dr. Moore. This was almost entirely a measure of the respect in which I, and others of my generation, held him and continue to do so. He was a wise, principled man with a quiet, chuckling sense of humour who set a very fine example to those of us who were fortunate enough to know him. I will miss him.

I am saddened to learn of Reg's passing. As one of his former students (M.Sc. 1981), I learned a lot from him, including to stroke my beard when listening intently to students. He was a wise man. My condolences to you Pat and the rest of your family.

Mark and I are sending you our sympathies at this sad time.
We have good memories of Reg. He was kind enough to remember our desire to own a long case clock and he took the trouble to phone and tell us about a good one coming up in an auction. Not only that, he phoned the auctioneer to get details for us. We really appreciated this. We often recall these events when I wind the clock.
Best Wishes, Mark and Hilda

We may have complained, and we may have struggled, but those of us who survived the third-year sedimentary geology courses went on to even better things, with a sense that one must be careful in conveying meaning! Rest in Peace, Reginald, you won't be forgotten any time soon.
