Obituary of Barbara Florence Cheney
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sorrow that the children of Barbara Florence Cheney, 84, of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, announce their mothers peaceful passing at her home on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 with her loving daughter, Martha and her devoted son, Glenn by her side. Born in St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough Co., Nova Scotia on May 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Elizabeth (Diggins) Morton. In 1970 she was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Dr. Graeme E. Cheney.
Barbara had a zest for life and dedicated her working career to health care. She worked in X-Ray at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, the Sisters of Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, and as Manager at Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital, Wolfville. Family held a remarkable place in her heart and she had dear, close and exceptional friends. She will be missed but never forgotten by the many whose lives she touched, but most especially, by her best friends, Dr. Reg and Pat Moore. Barbara loved to travel, possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and had a passion for seagulls. She is now free to fly with them to new harbours.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will take place at its Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main St., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sandra Fyfe, St. Johns Anglican Church, officiating. In keeping with Barbaras wishes, cremation has taken place. Her special godchild and namesake, Barbara Diggins of Vancouver, B.C. will deliver the eulogy. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca. Internment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Saint John, N.B. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) of Kings County in their mothers memory.
