Herbert, P. "Jeannette" - age 92 years of Aylesford. The family of the late P. "Jeannette" (Nichols) Herbert are sad to announce her quiet passing in Valley Regional Hospital on July 18, 2014.
She was born on June 1st, 1922 in Aylesford to Dr. Morley & Hettie Nichols in the same home she was brought up in and with the exception of two years, lived in the rest of her life.
Educated in a three room school in Aylesford and at K.C.A. in Kentville for her 12th grade, then on to Wolfville for a business course at the former Horton Academy of Acadia University. She was employed at the Berwick division of M.W. Graves & Co. for several years during which time she married Edward Herbert on July 21, 1942.
Jeannette was a life-long member of the Aylesford United Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer of the United Church Women for many years and was also a honorary member of the U.C.W. She was proud to be elected the first lady Elder of her Church.
Always a lover of sports, she played tennis in her teen years, later became a charter member of the Berwick Curling Club & curled every year into her late 80's. She was a "par 3" golfer and loved to garden, growing beautiful glad's that she sold road side for many years. Besides her sports, gardening and bridge she also enjoyed the family cottage for over 60 year at Morden on the Bay of Fundy.
She is survived by son Tim & Carol Herbert, Ontario, son Danny & Joy Herbert, Auburn; Grandchildren John & Nancy Herbert,Ontario, Katie Herbert, Ontario, Jodi & Luke Denhaan, Clarence , Christopher & Josee Herbert, Alberta; great grandchildren, Haden, Madex & Roen Denhaan, Clarence, Rylan Herbert, Alberta; one sister "Bunny" Small, Aylesford; three nephews Greg Vidito, Halifax, Brian Vidito, PEI, Alan Small, Mass., one niece Elizabeth Burrows, Truro and several grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in Edward Herbert in January 1988 and her sister Thelma (Nichols) Vidito, Truro.
No visitation by her request. The funeral service will be held at the Aylesford United Church on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 3:00 pm. Burial in the Aylesford Union Cemetery and reception to follow in the Aylesford United Church Reception Hall.
