Bennett, Wendell Verdon – age 66 years of Somerset, passed away on August 26, 2014 at the Valley Regional Hospital. Born on September 7, 1947 in Canning; he was the son of Chester and Myrtle (Corkum) Bennett. He worked as a mechanic and autobody repair at Martin Service Station in Sheffield Mills (1968-1978). From there he went to work at Graves (Coby Foods) in Aylesford as a farm machinery mechanic until 1988. Having the autobody bug still in him, he moved on to Baltzer’s Equipment where he worked in the autobody shop until 1998. He rounded out the latter part of his working career as a mechanic again for Avon Foods and DHL as a delivery driver. He certainly didn’t mind being busy. He had a passion and admiration for antique cars and after a long search, he found himself buying one. He and his wife enjoyed car cruises with the Downeast Classic Car Club. He served as Vice-President for 2 years and always enjoyed the cruises and car shows. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Rhoda (Sheffield) Bennett; daughter Janice (Leon) Bennett of Middleton; son Blaine of Somerset; mother Myrtle Bennett of Evergreen Special Care Home in Kentville; brothers Arthur of Kingston, Bruce (Heather) of Sheffield Mills; sister Eleanor (Richard) Graves of Canning; grandchildren Tyler Bennett and Dante Cress; also by several nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his father Chester Bennett and grandson Damion Bennett. Visitation will take place on Saturday August 30, 2014 at the Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Berwick Chapel (192 Commercial St) from 7-9pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Somerset Community Hall on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 2-4pm.
