Stevens, Alexander Malcolm - 94 of Kentville formerly of Wolfville, passed away Saturday September 27, 2014 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Blanche Stevens. He was a resident of Wolfville and surrounding area all of his life. Alex served his country overseas during World War II with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a life member of CD Lumsden Branch #74, Royal Canadian Legion, Wolfville. After his war service he worked at Camp Aldershot as a fire fighter for several years. Following this he worked at Acadia University for 25 years as a custodian and later as a supervising custodian. Alex and Hazel sponsored many overseas children. He took pride in his work and in his family. Sadly, he lost the love of his life, his dear wife Hazel (Kennedy); after 46 years of marriage. Alex was also predeceased by a newborn son, Malcolm; son, Mark in December 2013; brother, Ray Stevens. He will be missed and remembered by sons, Merton (Louise), Milford (Joyce), Merlin (Sheila); daughters, Mary Jo (Mitch Atwell), Mary (Glen Currie); daughter-in-law, Eileen; sister-in-law, Margaret; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday October 3rd at Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville (902-542-4656) followed by funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday October 4th Rev. Ellen Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, Salvation Army or Diabetes Association.
