Robert Hutt - June 5, 1935 until November 20, 2014 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Bob Hutt. He was the beloved member of his beautiful family and of the New Ross Community that he loved so well. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Rubia; sons, Paul, Halifax, Steven, Enfield; step sons, Jason Eisenberg, Enfield, Max Cage, New York; daughter, Karen Hutt, Dartmouth; step daughter, Jennifer Moore, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lou Hutt, Lois Wood, both of Ontario; sister-in-law, Maxine Hutt. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Louise (Blair) Hutt; brother, David Aubrey Hutt. Robert Hutt had an extensive career in television and film in Toronto and Halifax. He worked with CBC Toronto as a director of photography and a photojournalist, eventually coming to Halifax as executive producer of Current Affairs responsible for Land and Sea. Under his guidance this series became a landmark program in the CBC lineup increasing viewership by 600%. He also created and taught courses for new producers and on-camera staff both at the CBC and Holland College (Charlottetown). Bob also did extensive work as an independent filmmaker. He was president of Charing Cross Productions, formed in 1997 to produce television documentaries including The Prince and the Grail. Bob was a director of the New Ross Family Resource Centre; coached Hockey from 1976 until 2002, achieving an advanced coaching degree; in 1977 he was Commodore of the Cheema Aquatic Club, when they won the national championship in canoe and kayak racing; in 1988 he worked as a counselor, placement officer for the Halifax Volunteer Resource Centre; Bob was pivotal in guiding Ross Farm Museum through its transformation to meet the future as a leader in community engagement; he was a similar force in the transformation of the Wye Marsh while he was in Ontario; he freely gave of his talents as a creative photographer and film maker to the community, especially Ross Farm Museum; he was VP of the New Ross Regional Development Society and worked tirelessly trying to bring a Continuing Care Facility to New Ross; he chaired the Charing Cross Society for Continuing Care; he volunteered with his wife, Rubia, at the New Ross Country Farm Market and for the New Ross Christmas Festival. Each one of the above could have a whole story written about his accomplishments. What this list does not tell is about the man - the caring, giving, beloved member of his community. He was a genuine, loving family man and an amazing friend, colleague, mentor to so many people. He will be missed. He is a great loss to us – his family, friends and community.
