McLeod, Ronald Claire, 75 of St. Paul, New Brunswick, formerly of Feltzen South, Nova Scotia, passed away on Sunday morning, December 21, 2014 at the Moncton City Hospital. Born in Chatham, Ontario on January 27, 1939 he was the son of the late Everette McLeod, Mellin, Ontario; and the late Frances (Moody) McLeod, Wheatley, Ontario. Ron joined the Royal Canadian Navy on 7th February 1956 and served on the HMCS Hunter, Cornwallis, Stadacona, Crusader, the Nootka and the Bonaventure until he was Honourably Released on 6th February 1961. He received a Machinery Operators Certificate with the Canadian Army Militia (Special Militia Training Programme) from November 1961 until completion on 17th December 1961 in Lunenburg. After leaving the Navy he worked at the Lunenburg Foundry NS, and was a Lake Fisherman in Wheatly, Ontario. When he moved back to Nova Scotia he became Chief Engineer after completing a course in Pictou, NS and was employed on various fish draggers and scallop draggers in Luenburg until he was no longer able to work due to injuries from a Motorcycle accident in July 1978. Doctor’s told him he would never walk again. His attitude was always “Don’t tell me what I can’t do, I’ll show you want I can do”. He was very proud to have lived independently for many years near the Ocean he dearly loved. Despite his physical limitations he continued his love of mechanics with the help of family and friends. He loved having company and sharing a good drink of rum. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Ron is survived by sons Steven McLeod, Mount Uniacke; Ron McLeod Jr. (Patsy), St. Paul, NB and Michael, St. Antoine, NB. Daughters Kim McAlpine (Marcello), Niagara Falls; Wendy Mersey (Ed), Rose Bay; Michelle McLeod (Ted), Lower LaHave; Stephanie Kjelland (Todd), Rose Bay and Patricia McLeod (Cory), Bridgewater. As per Dad’s wishes there will be no service at this time as he requested we have a gathering on the beach he so loved, on or about August 1, 2015 to share a toast as we remember him with many stories to tell. Donations may be made to The Canadian Paraplegic Society, to the Jennifer Jean Collins fund thou the account set up at the Bank of Montreal (to help support her Rehab costs) or a charity of your choice.
