Obituary of George Yorke

YORKE, George Edward – Age 77, Berwick, Kings County. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of George on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Aylesford, he was the son of the late Owen Hawley Yorke and Mary Elizabeth (Veno) Yorke. George began his employment career at the Berwick Creamery. He was also employed at the Berwick Bakery and the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre. George was a longstanding member of the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years. He loved the community of Berwick, and was a friend to all. George is survived by his sister Freda (John) Aker, Coldbrook; brother Richard Yorke, Ontario; several nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friend Joyce Freeman. He was predeceased by brothers Gerald and Robert Yorke. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and other staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their dedication and compassion shown to George, and to the Berwick & District Fire Department for all their kindness. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 2:00p.m. at the Berwick Funeral Chapel, Pastor Layton MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow at the Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department.
