JOHNSTONE, Margaret Elizabeth Effield, Middleton, passed away at the age of 89 following a long illness at Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS on Friday, July 31, 2015 . Margaret was born in Strood & Hoo, England. Surviving is daughter, Heather Savoie (Paul) Lower Sackville, NS; grandchildren, Catriona Johnstone (Joe), Pembroke, ON; Bill Savoie, Lower Sackville, NS; great-grandson Zachary Johnstone, Sharbot Lake, ON; sister, Betty, England. Margaret was predeceased by loving husband William Stitt Johnstone, granddaughter Natasha Roop; brothers Leonard and Jack, sister Molly and parents. Mom had a green thumb and was well known for her beautiful flower gardens. Many of her friends still have her lovely knitted baby outfits and afghans. She loved to bake and always had a sweet or two ready when her many friends would drop by for a cup of tea. She enjoyed having a game of skip-bo with her buddy Liam, and of course, Bingo with her daughter Heather. She also often told stories about her get-a-ways with her friend Rose to Peggy's Cove and Cape Breton, and had many a good jokes, even risque ones to tell. As per Mom's request Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held at St. Lukes Anglican Church Hall on Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army. A sincere thank you is extended to the staff at the TCU and Medical Wards of Soldier's Memorial Hospital for their professional and compassionate care; also to all friends who visited and helped cheer her up.
