Obituary of John Waitstall Patten

Patten, John Waitstall 97, formerly of Yarmouth, passed away on September 1, 2015 at Blomidon Court Shannex, Greenwich, NS. Born in Wellington, on December 15, 1917 he was the only child of the late J. Herman and Elizabeth E.(Porter) Patten. John married the love of his life, the late Phyllis Rogers on January 17, 1942, prior to him leaving to serve his country in WW11. He served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and was a participant in operation Totalize in Normandy. Returning from the war Dad and Mom lived in Yarmouth and were members of the Yarmouth Wesleyan Church for many years. Dad was a 25 year Volunteer Member of the Naiad Yarmouth Fire Department and was employed at Burridge Community College for many years and worked as a Commissionaire at the Yarmouth Airport for some time. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a quiet, kind and gentle soul.
Survived by daughters, Paige (Doug) Mosher, White Rock; Sharman (Richard) Scott, Halifax and his son, Craig (Karen) Patten, Kentville, as well as grandchildren John (Tina) Mosher; Karla (Shannon) Stevens all of Kentville; Mark Scott, Halifax; April (Matt), Sackville NB; Grant (Megan) Patten and Scott (Kim) of Edmonton, Alberta; great-grandchildren Taylor and Alex Mosher; Gavin and Callum Stevens.
Cremation has taken place and a family burial in Yarmouth at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of Orchard View Apartments in Berwick and Blomidon Court in Greenwich for their kindness and compassion in making Dad comfortable in his later years.
