Obituary of Annie Lonergan
Please share a memory of Annie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Annie Marie Lonergan was born on April 20, 1924, in Fraxville, Lunenburg County, the daughter of Hazel (Hiltz) Bezanson and Hewitt Bezanson, and passed away November 15, 2015, in Grand View Manor.
Growing up during the depression, Annie learned the essential skills of cooking, cleaning and taking care of others skills that would serve her, her whole life. In 1946, she married Laurence Douglas Lonergan and together they had five children. In 1972, she went to work, in the Housekeeping Department, at Grand View Manor, where she worked for 14 years, retiring in 1986. Earlier in her life she had also worked at the Cornwallis Inn, MW Graves plant and for the Minas Basin & Berwick Fruit Companies.
Annie was a loving, hard-working, fiercely independent lady, with strong morals and a great sense of what she thought was fair. Her word was gold she always kept her promises. She was dedicated to her family, her church and her community. In 2010, Annie was chosen the Town of Berwicks Volunteer of the Year, an honour that she truly appreciated. She really enjoyed gardening, and preferred to be out digging in the dirt. She was also a very good cook, sewer, crafter, and enjoyed building simple wood projects, hammering nails. She was a true country girl with a fantastic memory for names and past events. She loved to travel and was especially proud that she got to Kiss the Blarney Stone while on a trip to Ireland.
She was dedicated to the Christ Anglican Church, Berwick, and was a member of the Anglican Church Women group since 1956. She spent a great deal of her life cooking for and working at church events.
Annie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Minnie Bezanson and son-in-law, Bertram Richardson.
