Obituary of Eugene Cleveland Howard

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Cleveland Howard, 81, of Coldbrook, Kings County, on December 15, 2015. Born July 27, 1934, in Middleton, he was the son of the late Eugene and Margaret (Kenney) Howard. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Spence) Howard, his sister Gertrude (Trudy) Stachewsky, B.C., his daughter Pam (Richard) Biggs, Halifax, son in law James (Jimmy) Rose of Berwick, and his pride and joy grandchildren; Derek, Emily, Sara, Emma, Maggie and Luke. He was predeceased by his daughter Kim Rose, his brother Beverly and his brother Sinclair (in infancy). Eugene served in the navy for 26 years, retiring as Warrant Officer. During his time in the navy he sailed on the (Maggie) Magnificent, the Bonaventure, the USS Essex, and the USS Wasp. He then joined the Department of Municipal Affairs, Hants Assessment Division where he was employed for 19 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, puttering, tinkering, and being outdoors. He was the pillar for his family. "Poppy" spent many enjoyed hours watching his grandchildren; at the rink playing hockey or ringette, in a gym playing basketball, or on sidelines cheering at the soccer field. He loved to joke around and make others laugh. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home and Chapels. A service to celebrate Eugene's life will be held at Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville at 11:00 am Tuesday December 22nd with Rev. Eva VanBuskirk officiating. Family Flowers only.
