Dorothy Marie Reeves
March 15, 1930 – February 4, 2016
Dorothy Marie Reeves – 85 of the Forties, New Ross passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, February 4, 2016. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was the daughter of Maurice and Rhona (Wentzell) Russell. After finishing her education she taught school at Canaan during 1949 and 1950 and then at Upper Vaughan and Leminster in 1951 and 1952. She was later employed as a bookkeeper in Halifax.
She married Maurice Clayton Reeves on September 18, 1954 and in the early years worked with him cooking in the logging camps and later as the bookkeeper for the familys’ logging and Christmas tree business. She supported him for many years at horse pulls at various fairs and exhibitions throughout the province and also with the International Horse Pull in the United States. She enjoyed caring for her family, gardening, making Christmas wreaths, going for drives on the family woodlots and preparing family meals.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Thomas (Deborah), Glendon (Shelley) and Jeffrey (Brenda) all of the Forties, her sisters Myrna (Ronald) Hyson of Indian Point and Sylvia Turner of New Ross. Grandchildren Daniel (Katherine), Michelle (Anthony) and Alyssa, sisters in law Elsie (Harold) French. Pansy Hiltz, Elva Bezanson, Myrna Reeves and Jean Veinot.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Maurice Reeves; Granddaughter Kaylie who died in infancy; brother Charles “Ted” Russell, and wife Bertha; brothers in law Alfred Turner, Foster Hiltz, Clifford Reeves; Percy Reeves and wife Della, Courtney Reeves and wife Reta, Basil Reeves, Oran Reeves and wife Ella; sisters in law Madeline and husband Melvin Walker, Beatrice Reeves who died in infancy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home and Chapels (New Ross) 902-689-2961. A Visitation will be held at the Forties Community Center Sunday evening February 7th from 7:00-9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 8th at 2:00 pm at the Christ Anglican Church with the Reverend Judi Phillips officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, New Ross Fire Department or Charity of one’s choice.
