I have known Catherine since she first came to the Mathematics and Statistics department many years ago, and I served as Head of Department for a large portion of her time in the department. On the basis of her deep and wide mathematical knowledge and her empathy for students as well as her teaching skills, I encouraged her to apply for a permanent position in the department when the opportunity arose. She proved herself outstanding.
On a personal basis, she was a gentle and open individual, someone that one could depend on in every way. I have not seen as much of her since my retirement from Acadia some eight years ago, but each time we happen to run into each other in the last few years, I have always been struck by her courage in the face of her untimely declining health. I certainly will miss her. My deepest condolences to her family.
