Obituary of Hilda Lois Keddy

Hilda Lois Keddy, 89 of Berwick, NS beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the age of 89 with son, Gerald, and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann, by her side. Hilda was a long time resident of Berwick, NS and was residing at Grandview Manor at the time of her death. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Hilda is survived by her son Gerald and daughter-in-law Mary Ann, Berwick, daughter Linda Ramey, Coldbrook, granddaughter Lisa Keddy, Lower Sackville, grandson Jason Keddy and fiancée Jenna, Windsor, along with many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Glenice Lohnes and brother-in-law, Roland Snyder.
One of nine children, she was predeceased by her parents, Wilbert and Lois Lohnes, her husband, Douglas "Buddy" Keddy, daughter Jolene Keddy, granddaughter Maria Ramey, three brothers (Raymond Lohnes, Russell Lohnes, Gerald Lohnes) and five sisters (Lorna Goehring, Pauline Zinck, Beulah Glidden, Freda (Roland) Snyder, Noreen Conrad). She was also predeceased by half-brothers Oswald Lohnes, Asaph Lohnes, and Morrell MacKay, and her half-sister, Hazel Kelly.
Hilda was a long-time employee of both Berwick Bakery and Canard Poultry (Maple Leaf Foods). She retired from the work force in 1988.
She was a very social and generous person, always willing to help out whenever and whomever, as needed. Hilda had a passion for playing cards and was a fantastic cook. She loved family get-togethers and picnics, gardening, animals, bird-watching, and travelling. She made a lasting impression on everyone that knew her.
Hilda was well known in the community for her volunteer work with the Royal Canadian Legion #69 Ladies Auxiliary and St. Eudora Rebekah Lodge #43. She volunteered for more than 40 years with both organizations. She received numerous awards in recognition of her volunteer work throughout the years, and was known to be very giving of her time. She simply loved doing for others.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900). A Graveside Memorial service will be held on May 24, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the Morristown United Cemetery. Reception to follow at Rebekah Lodge Hall, 143 Cottage St, Berwick, NS. Family Flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, SPCA, Canadian Diabetes Foundation, Grand View Manor or Rebekah Lodge Hall.
