Please share a memory of Sophia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sophia "Patricia" NICHOLS (KOWAL) of Berwick and formerly of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, passed away peacefully at the Grand View Manor on May 19, 2016 at the age of 89 years. The daughter of the late Michael and Paraska (Kempa) Kowal, she was born in Chatfield, Manitoba on May 29, 1926. After schooling in Chatfield and Winnipeg, Pat worked at the Connaught Laboratories in Toronto during the early years of WWII and then enlisted in the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC) where she served until September 1946. She met and married the love of her life, her husband Roderick Nichols, and they had 66 adventuresome years together. She was a member of the Lawrencetown Legion Branch 112. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she found her greatest happiness in devoting herself to her husband and family and helping others. She loved gardening and cooking. Her warm smile and loving personality, with just a hint of mischievousness, endeared her to everyone who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Brian Nichols (Lynne Campbell), of Dartmouth, and Mark Nichols (Sherry), of Hereford, Arizona; her daughters, Gail Nichols (Richard Cherry), of Tamarac, Florida, Leslie Jordan (Neil), of Chipman Corner, and Shelley Baltzer (Garry), of Canning; her sisters, Nancy Oakes, of Vernon, B.C. and Ollie Vinton of Noble Park, Australia, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Rod; brothers John Kowal and Bill Kowal, and sisters Anne Komarowsky, Kathy Osnach, and Marion Olthuis, all of Ontario. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900). No visitation or flowers by request. A family gathering will be held at Berwick Funeral Chapel on May 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with interment at the Aylesford Union Cemetery to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Sarah Scott officiating. Memorial donations in memory of Pat may be made to a charity of choice. On line condolences may be made by visiting: www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca
