Obituary of Ingrid Christel Meissner

Mrs. Ingrid Christel Meissner (née Hannemann) of Kentville, Nova Scotia passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the age of 80.
Ingrid was born on May 16, 1936 and grew up as the eldest of two children born to Werner and Ilse Margarete (nee Hamel) in Berlin, Germany. On March 18, 1959, she married Dieter Meissner in Berlin and the couple had two children, Stephan and Bertram.
Ingrid enjoyed working with children when she lived in Germany as she worked at for many years as a Kindergarten teacher even after their children came along and until Ingrid moved to Canada with Dieter and Bertram in 1980.
Ingrid spent her time volunteering with children during lunch time at the nearby school in Mississauga, Ontario where they made their home for a number of years. Following this Ingrid worked with her husband in his business, DMC Technical Services managing the office for about 20 years when they lived in Mississauga and then moved to Port Colborne, Ontario where they lived for 14 years and made many friends whom Ingrid enjoyed hosting dinner parties for so she could cook all day in preparation as she loved nothing more than to have friends and family gather around the table to enjoy a meal and a glass of wine.
Following retirement Ingrid and Dieter moved to Elliott Lake, Ontario where the couple planned to spend their time fishing and boating in Canadas beautiful Northern Ontario. When Dieter passed away in 2007 Ingrid then moved to Burlington Ontario to live near family and enjoyed swimming, working out, cooking and taking long walks every day to Spencer Smith Park.
In 2015 Ingrid moved to Kentville, Nova Scotia with Bertram where she looked forward to spending time at the ocean and taking long walks in nature.
Ingrid will be missed deeply and is survived by her sons Stephan (Doris) in Nürnberg, Germany and Bertram (Linda) in Kentville, Nova Scotia her grandchildren, Ramona (Alex) Kennedy, Sebastian and Laura Meissner, Calvin and Matthew Meissner, Matthew and Nicole Cochrane, and great grandchild, Zoey Kennedy.
We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff of the Wolfville nursing home where Ingrid lived the last few months.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Berwick Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900). In keeping with Ingrid's wishes, cremation has already taken place with a celebration of life to be planned at a later date. The family is grateful for condolences, and requests that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
