Madeline Flora Fields age 89 of Toronto, ON, passed away July 27, 2016 in the Chartwell Elmira Nursing Home. Born in Canning, NS on May 27th, 1927; she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Cox of Woodside. Madeline moved to Hamilton, ON in her early 20's to work. There, she married and had two daughters. With the military, they lived in Germany for over a year before moving back to Ontario. The family, eventually settled in Toronto; and Madeline worked for a large transport company doing clerical work. She retired from there at age 65 and proceeded to keep herself very busy with her handy work. Madeline was still travelling to Nova Scotia each year (with the exception of the last few years) to visit with friends and family. She was very fortunate to have traveled on many occasions with her daughters. She was always a great seamstress and knitter. After her retirement, she took painting lessons and spent many hours with that hobby. The last several years she started knitting cuddle dolls to be distributed to the children in Haiti and Africa. It is estimated that she has sent out between 400 and 450 dolls. She was such a warm and loving lady with a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh, had wonderful friends and neighbours, all of whom she loved. Madeline’s battle was with cancer and in December 2015, she began a new chapter, moving to a Nursing Home. Where she was loved by all of her PSW's. Madeline is survived by her daughters Donna Fields of Kitchener, ON, Sue (Randy O’Keefe) Silver of Cambridge, ON, her sister Evelyn Cox of Canning, NS and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Cox and her brothers Wilfred Cox and Hugh Cox. Service arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656). A Celebration of Madeline’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the Wolfville Chapel. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
