SPURRELL (Smith), Muriel, 88 passed away peacefully on August 23, 2016 at Grand View Manor, where she resided for the past 11 years. She was born April 12, 1928 to the late Harold & Wilhemina (Mortimer) Smith, in York, England. Muriel and her mother came to Canada in 1949, where Muriel met Wallace (Wally) Spurrell. They married and had four children, Helen Cunningham (Allan), Bridgewater; Lynda (deceased); Jim (Kathy), Tremont; June (Greg Coakley), Halifax. The military lifestyle took Muriel and family from Montreal to France, Toronto, back to Montreal, Ottawa & finally, Greenwood. She loved her home in Tremont, where she lived from 1973 to 2005. She was an avid gardener and was involved with the Busy Bees Seniors Group and the Tremont Flower Club. Muriel visited many neighbors throughout the years canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Red Cross. Additionally, she was an active member of Kingston United Church. Muriel is also survived by her wonderful grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan and Kelly Cunningham, and Adam (Julia Stephenson) and Amy Spurrell. Extreme gratitude, thanks and appreciation to the many wonderful, loving and caring friends at Grand View Manor for all that they have done for Muriel and her family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Berwick Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900). A Service will be held on Sunday September 11, 2016 at 4:00 pm in the Grand View Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grand View Manor or the Alzheimer Society.
