I knew Mark since 2004. We had been out of touch for a while and I just learned of his passing today. He was a gentle and good man who taught me a great deal. Rest in peace, Mark.

Dear Ruth, Rachael and Nico,
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. No words can really capture the emotions...but I know that you have a multitude of memories that can capture the essence of who Mark was to each of you. I know he loved his family, always speaking fondly of you when I enquired...especially Sadie and Savannah!! I remember him for his peaceful and leisurely way, for his open spirit making him easy to confide in and talk to about anything. May you find support in each other and in your closest friends.... Mariette

Dear Ruth, Nico and Rachel
I was so sorry to hear of Mark's death, so shocking, so hard to comprehend. I offer you my sincerest sympathy. His passing leaves a huge gap in your family unit.
His service was beautiful, such a loving tribute. Your music Ruth, the music he so loved as he loved you. Nico your words, your humour, your capturing of the essence of your dad, you delivered so sincerely. He was honoured well.
I need to tell you a little story. I worked with Mark and at one point we shared a parking spot under the office. It was a coveted spot and the parameters of our sharing were vague and weird which left us ripe for conflict. And one day it happened. Mark and I were shouting at one another in the middle of the hallway full of clients. We were filled with righteous indignation and parking spot rage. I was so angry at him.
The next morning I was standing near the waiting room as I watched Mark walking his client to the door. The client wore a downtrodden look , a man that may not have gained much respect from most folks but Mark was walking him to the door listening intently, giving eye contact and aknowledgement. He laid his hand gently on the man's shoulder and smiled at him as they said goodbye.
Later that afternoon I heard Mark talking about he and Ruth going to PEI where Ruth would be playing in the symphony. When he said her name there was a sparkle and a reverence in the word, almost as if the word "Ruth" was sacred.
As I drove home that evening I thought "get over yourself Lynda, Mark is a good man."

I didn't know Mark, but as a friend of Nico's I always got the impression the Mark was a great father and overall good person. I was very sorry to hear this sad news. I know he had a tremendous mark on Nico and inspired him to do great things in the world, and I can only imagine that his light shone on many others. My deepest sympathies to the family and everyone who loved Mark.

Mark had a great spirit. People cheered up when he entered a room. I always knew he would greet me with a smile and some banter. He shared his opinions generously, and with humour and lightness. I'll miss his inspiration, enthusiasm and joy very much.

So very sad to learn Mark has passed away. He was always an inspiration and someone who had a great zest for life. He generously passed on his knowledge of all the wonderful experiences he has had from hiking the Knife's Edge, Katahdin, trekking through Nepal or even finding an amazing restaurant in Prague; always enthusiastically trying to make other's experiences better. Somehow knowing how active he was makes his sudden passing even more tragic, Mark was a young 73! We met many years ago while practicing yoga, this year, he began classes with me. It was humbling to have someone with his experience in the room. Mark was an amazing person and sincere condolences to his wife Ruth and family from all of his yoga buddies. We will miss you.

I am sad to hear of Mark's passing. He was a wonderful person. I met with Mark weekly for nearly a year in the early days of my sobriety. With warmth and insight, he encouraged me to look honestly at the person in the mirror, accept his past failings, begin to deal with the inner demons, and start to build a new life. His parting comment that I seemed a much calmer person and his big embrace as I left his office for the final time were seminal in keeping me on the good path. Twenty years later, I remain so very grateful to Mark. He helped me and so many others repair their lives. My condolence to his wife and family.
