Obituary of Mabel Isabelle Nowlan

Please share a memory of Mabel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mabel Isabelle Nowlan on September 11, 2016 in Kentville's Shannex, with her family by her side. Born in Black River on July 26, 1928, she was the daughter of Emery and Vera (Reid) Nowlan. She had been employed with Canadian Keyes Fibre, Hantsport for 30 years, before retiring to care for her parents at home. Mabel had attended the Black River Baptist Church, living a good life, steadfast in her faith and her belief that simpler was better. She was known to have made many beautiful quilts over the years and also loved to read a good book and work at solving word puzzles, with neighbors happy to drop in with fresh supplies of both. Mabel cherished her time spent with family and friends, taking a genuine interest in the wellbeing of those near and dear to her. She was also a fountain of knowledge when it came to her beloved community. On many occasions she was able to provide tidbits of information others had forgotten along the way, most likely shared over tea and a slice of pumpkin loaf she had just made. She also had an unwavering sense of community and when the community hall burned, though deeply saddened, she took great pleasure in its "rebirth", lending support in any way she could. Mabel held a special place in our hearts, and her presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sisters Jean, Ruby and Gail as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Zena, Irma, Violet and Ferne and brothers Ronald, Morley and Arden. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656). A Funeral Service will be held on September 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Wolfville Chapel. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to a Charity of One's Choice.
