Jim was included in one final news story about citizenship and the Lost Canadians – it came out ‘on the wire’ a few weeks before his death, and was picked up by lots of papers across the country. There seemed to be a few versions of the story. Some included Jim’s picture, some did not. It was on the front page of Nova Scotia's Chronicle Herald. Jim was pleased by this story getting out and getting such good coverage. He cared about the issue very much. Have a look:

I just read the uplifting account of Jim's life, and am very moved by it. Although I did not know Jim, I do know his sister, Jeanie, who has been my friend and neighbor for many decades here in New Jersey. I wish I had had the opportunity to have met him! He sounds like a fearless and creative soul, and I have no doubt that he will be missed by all who knew him, for a long time to come. My prayers for all who mourn his passing, may the Lord strengthen and comfort you all.

Dear Lisa
What sad news, but also what a nice ending.
Thank you so much for taking so good care of my dear old friend and making the last part of his life like a walk in the sunshine.
We were so much alike, but also different, yet the same love for music and the diving world.
When I made my entry into the diving community in 1981 I was embraced by Jim and Bob - what wonderful friends. I will be thankful for the rest of my life.
My very best to you Lisa

Lisa,
Jim was one of the most interesting men I have known, a great friend. His influence on my life and career were very significant: He taught me high standards in diving life support; he proudly showed me the first PC I ever saw; he introduced me to ergonomics (I later studied the subject at university and my career was boosted); the first GPS (sat nav) I saw was in his truck and travelling the US roads was fabulous. I spent three days with him in his truck and it caused the itch that I scratch today - I have now been to 47 states.
"Where we go up in that north country
Lakes and streams and mines so free
I had no better friend than he”
I feel very sad today:
“A diesel truck is rollin’ slow
Pullin’ down a heavy load”
I am so glad I spoke to him recently.
My thoughts are very much with you and the family.
Best wishes,
Bob

I only knew Jim for a short time . Worked on a couple of projects together. Considered Jim a friend of mine . Enjoyed my time with him chatting on the street or trying to solve a problem and come up with a solution. Will be missed
